Savory Air-Fried Tofu

My favorite food to air-fry is definitely tofu so let me tell you how to get the best results!
(Baking option included)

Tips and tricks:⠀⠀⠀⠀

  1. Season tofu with garlic powder. Garlic powder will provide extra flavor as well as a more meaty/crispy texture.
  2. Use sauces! My favorite sauces to use include soy sauce, tamari, sweet chili sauce and sriracha. Use sauces before air frying AND after for best results.
  3. Nutritional yeast….THE BEST! TRY IT! It acts as a flour-like breading to coat the surface for extra crispiness and of course flavor.
  4. Freeze and fully defrost tofu before cooking. This texture is unreal and pretty similar to chicken. Make sure to press your tofu or buy high protein tofu.
  5. Air fry at 375 for 22-25 minutes. Flip/mix every 7-8 minutes to cook evenly. Bake at 400 for 25-30 minutes also flipping every 7-8 minutes for best results.
  6. PRO TIP: If you’re baking it use a silicone mat! This will help you achieve an ultimate level of crisp that you can normally only get using an air fryer. I have linked the one I have.

Savory Air-Fried Tofu

  • Author: Anna Rios
  • Total Time: 32 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pack High Protein Tofu (Trader Joe’s is my pick) or Frozen and defrosted Tofu
  • 2 Tbsp Sriracha
  • 1 Tbsp Maple Syrup or Agave
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce (low sodium)
  • 1/4 cup Nutritional Yeast
  • 1 Tsp Garlic Powder (or to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Dice tofu into cubes. To dice evenly start with cutting tofu directly in half and then 4 equal parts. Aim for cubes that are no bigger than 1 inch in width and height.
  2. Add tofu to a large mixing bowl and add sriracha, maple syrup and soy sauce. Use a rubber spatula to mix in the sauces and coat all tofu cubes evenly.
  3. Add garlic powder, nooch (nutritional yeast), salt and pepper. Use rubber spatula again to coat once more.
  4. Add to air fryer and air fry on 375 for 22 minutes pausing every 7 minutes to flip tofu to avoid uneven cooking. If baking, bake at 400 for 25-30 minutes also flipping every 7-8 minutes for best results (with a silicone matt!).
  5. After about 22 minutes check your tofu. If it is at your desired crsipiness level take out immediately and serve.
